暌违近两年，「_genic」作为安室的第12张录音室原创专辑，总计发行CD+DVD，CD+Blu-ray & CD Only三种版本。

本作以“复兴 (Revival)”为主题，由于安室的第42张实体单曲「Brighter Day」的曲风和概念与之不符，故本作的收录曲均为未曾发表的新曲，而并未收录「Brighter Day」。本作名称中的“genic”意为“基因的”，而“_”则可以采用其他名词替代作为“genic”的前缀，例如“Soundgenic”，“Dancegenic”亦或是“Photogenic”，其象征着安室是与生俱来，歌舞全能并活跃在聚光灯下的时代歌姬，同时也给听众提供了一个可以自由想象的空间。

融入上世纪八九十年代的放克与电子及舞曲风，本作收录包括安室吐露心声的日式抒情「Anything」，潮流尖端的电音舞曲「Stranger」，俏皮合成风的生日赞歌「Birthday」，相邀虚拟偶像初音未来助阵的灵动电子「B Who I Want 2 B」，MV带给听众新奇体验的合成放克「Golden Touch」在内的13首全新曲目。安室的录音室原创专辑全部由新曲构成也是其出道以来的首次。
